Lucy Elaine

Hey world, here I am!

Hi daddy!

Hi mommy!

Sucking my thumb.

Sweet dreams...

Close-up.

Checking things out...

Why do I have to wear shoes?

Opening my eyes.

In yellow....

Can I touch her?

I think we'll keep her!

Lucy’s Birth Story

We had planned to be induced due to the ultrasound we had a week earlier which estimated her weight to be 8 lbs, 15 oz.

I called the hospital at 6am on Tuesday, 4/22/2003 and they told me to come in at 8am. We took Paul to Grandma & Grandpa’s house, and were off to the hospital. I was only 2 cm when we arrived. They started the Pitocin at 9am. At 12 noon, they broke my water. At 1:15 the contractions were getting very intense, and we called for the anesthesiologist. At 1:30pm, I got the epidural (I was about 3-4 cm.) At 4:15, Sandy (our midwife) said we were ready to push. I started pushing at 4:20, and she arrived at 4:34pm! (Much different than the 3 ½ hours of pushing we had with Paul.) When she came out, they put her right on my belly… actually, I put her on my belly myself, and Brian and I agreed that she looked just like Paul did when he was born, but with a smaller head. Her apgars were 9, 9.

We named her Lucy Elaine. She weighed 8 lbs, 12 oz, and is 20 inches long. Paul only got to see his baby sister through the window, and only visited the hospital once, because he had a little cold. We stayed in the hospital until late Thursday morning, picked up Paul from Grandma’s, and came home as a wonderful little family.
