Welcome!

Daniel Ust is responsible for this page. I've finally decided to get my web page going, as opposed to my usual mooching off other people for space. I thank all of those who've indulged me in my web mooching over the years, especially Timothy Shell, Peter DeVito, and Dave Euchner.

I'm not putting stuff up here about my personal life or my recent trip to wherever or even photos of my pets. Mainly, this space is devoted to my writings – essays, book reviews, rejoinders, short stories, and poetry. I make no claims that my work is great, but you be the judge. My only hope is that it inspires thought and is an enjoyable read.

You'll find In Principle, the newsletter of the now defunct Central Jersey Objectivists, here as well.

Yes, I fall into the Objectivist tradition in philosophy, and most of my writings display that. I don't think I'd call myself an Objectivist, but a truth seeker – even if that sounds pretentious. Suffice it to say, I've been heavily influenced by Ayn Rand and her seconds. Hopefully, this influence has been for the better, but I try to keep on my toes here to be sure that all influences on me are for the better. I hope all reading this do too.

My politics are libertarian anarchist, though there's much more to life than politics. My main interests are in the arts and the sciences – not politics – anyway.

I write short stories and poetry. See My Works for some of these.

I draw and paint too. In the former, I do mostly pencil drawings and I also like charcoal. In the latter, I work in pastel and watermedia (acrylic, watercolor, gouache). Nothing to go crazy over. Most of this would be labeled as representational with a painterly feel. Nothing too deep. Landscapes, some figure drawings, and a few still lifes. Maybe one day, I'll throw some of my sketches and paintings up here so you can laugh.

I play piano and guitar too. I've tried my hand at recorder, harmonica, and violin. Though I dream of composing music, I prefer to listen to and play other people's compositions and performances. On the piano, I play works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and Shostakovich.

I enjoy lots of art, whatever the medium, from film to dance to fiction to painting. In painting, I generally prefer the representational over the abstract, but I try to judge each work rather than damning a whole genre. Even so, I've never seen anything purely abstract I liked – and I've seen a lot of abstract art!

I also consider myself a transhumanist. (See my Links page for more on this.)
